I'm on heavy meds from surgery AND I'm on birth control. Can this cause spotting?

Doctor said the prescription meds and bc wouldn't be a problem, but I'm having spotting which isn't normal for me. I'm pretty sure I'm not pregnant. Is it possible the meds are causing the spotting?
