Phakic IOL confusion........?

I've been trying to get information about a phakic IOL for hyperopia because my prescription is too much for lasik, but all i'm getting on the web are completely different answers and it's irritating the hell out of me! Some places say it's a good substitute for lasik if you have a high amount but other sites say that IT'S NOT EVEN APPROVED BY THE FDA?!?! So which is it??????? Arg! This is really making me mad because none of the sources I found were up to date, the latest one I found was published in like 2009 I think. Any help would be greatly appreciated and I'll give you ten points.
