Effexor xr and citalopram?

I am currently taking effexor xr and my insurance was recently cancelled. I can not afford to pay the full amount for the prescription and am worried that I will have really bad withdrawls. I have a prescription of citalopram still that I previously took before the effexor. Is it safe to take citalopram again until I can afford the effexor?
